Fabled Fox

I created this needle felted fox as the first character in a series of woodland creatures. A posable wire armature is hidden beneath for full poseability and enables the fox to be dressed in interchangeable outfits. Three clothing items have been hand-sewn, knit, and felted, tailored to fit this charming character. Inspiration was partially drawn from vintage illustrations of Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl and Frog & Toad by Arnold Lobel.

This pink and white flecked sweater was hand-knit with 2.75mm needles using a strand of embroidery floss and white baby alpaca yarn held together. The pattern was self-drafted and features a ribbed mock neck and wide ribbing around the body.
These yellow trousers were hand stitched using linen dyed with turmeric. Brown sewing thread brings a well-loved, cottage style to these pants. Features include a snap closure in the front and a reinforced opening for the character's tail.

This green wool overcoat is colored with wool roving felted on top of a grey felt base. The inside is lined with dark green cotton. The blanket stitched edging and asymmetrical closure craft a unique woodsy style. It has been paired with a red and orange plaid scarf to accent the green and blue tones of the coat.
