The first project assigned to students in the NCSU College of Design is a paper wearable that illustrates a movement of the human body through the elements of light and gravity.
After an exhaustive study of the human body through observation of the walk cycle, research of human anatomy, and examination of the capabilities of joints and range of motion, I was drawn to the movement of the spine.  I illustrated the movement of the spine by creating six large cones that envelop the human body. The cones catch little pools of light drawing the eye up the body, creating the illusion of gravity defiance. When the wearer bends at the waist, the cones stretch out from each other and visualize the bending of the spine as the vertebrae stretch and compress.
